The Mustard Seed

Matthew 13:31-32

mustard seed

At the time of Christ, the phrase ‘like a grain of mustard seed’ was a common expression for anything very minute. That it could grow into a plant large enough to shelter birds seemed most amazing. In this window the hand of God is holding such a seed to which He compares His Kingdom. It reveals the story of the almost insignificant beginnings of His Church.

This window was given in memory of I. R. Sher by Louis Bachnik

He told them another parable:  “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
